Nicolet theater students performed matinees of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for grade-school students on Thursday, April 18. Nicolet students entertained kindergarteners and first-graders, with highlights of a chocolate river, bubbles, puppets, and of course, dancing! Miss Zeimentz is so proud of everyone involved with the children's show; it is truly a joy to see the joy on children's faces as they watch the show🍫
Nicolet sophomore Alonah Hunter-Owens has been named a Congress-Bundestag Scholar for the 2024-25 school year. CBYX scholars serve as youth ambassadors for the United States, sharing our culture with Germans and bringing insights into German culture back to their home communities. CBYX scholars live with German host families and attend school. Other highlights are the midyear seminar in Hamburg and the culminating Berlin seminar, where students meet with members of the German parliament.
In addition to an interest in German, CBYX winners need to be well-rounded individuals with strong communication skills and intercultural awareness. At Nicolet, Alonah has been active in Student Council, Girls’ Basketball, Pearls for Teen Girls and the Peer Tutoring programs. Congratulations to those of you who worked with her to develop her skills.
Alonah is the 19th Nicolet German student to be selected for this program in the last twenty one years. Tyler Friedel is currently studying in Lüneburg in Lower Saxony. Other recent winners include Jack Drouhin (2022) and Soph Franecki ( 2021).
Initiated in 1983, the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program was created to strengthen ties between Germany and the United States. CBYX is jointly funded by the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag, and is overseen in the U.S. by the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Way to go Alonah 👏
